I saw a post on Facebook recently about the top ten regrets of people in palliative care.
Number one stopped me in my tracks.
They regretted not fulfilling their potential.
Not being who they could have been.
Not living the life they felt they were actually meant for.
It stayed with me and I kept thinking about it and trying to work out what ‘fulfilling my potential’ might look like in reality.
So, in the end, I asked ChatGPT a simple question.
If you were human, what would you do to fulfil your potential?
Its answer felt like a blueprint. And I hope you find it as inspiring as I did.
It’s not complicated. Not grand. Just honest.
1. Live in deep alignment with your values. Know what matters, then choose it on purpose. Ask yourself often, does this feel like my life or someone else’s?
2. Build meaningful relationships.
Hold close the people who challenge you, comfort you, and help you grow. Prioritise connection over busyness. It will matter more than anything else.
3. Use your skills to create something that outlasts you. Write. Teach. Build. Change something for the better. Legacy is not about applause, it is about impact.
4. Keep growing and risk failing. Say yes to the things that stretch you. Let curiosity win. You cannot fulfil your potential while staying within your comfort zone.
Maybe this is our reminder.
To stop playing small.
To stop postponing the parts of life that make us feel alive.
To choose the version of ourselves we would be proud of at the end.
Not someday.
Now.
