It strikes me that most assistants start from a point of limitation.
Most of you fell into the role rather than choosing it.
And because of that, many of you never had that moment of arrival, that deep sense of I made it. I achieved what I set out to achieve.
So you keep serving, supporting, perfecting, but rarely owning the value that you have already built.
And when society still questions your worth, when comments like those under the Financial Times article this week remind you how misunderstood this profession still is, is it any wonder you doubt yourselves?
But listen to me carefully.
It is not who you think you are that holds you back.
It is who you think you are not.
You already are strategic. You already are leading. You already are a professional. You already are a subject matter expert in administration.
Stop waiting for someone else to give you that moment of recognition. Claim it for yourself.
Because you have made it.
You are enough.
Your job isn’t to convince the ignorant. Your job is to keep standing tall in the truth of what you bring, every single day.
And I will keep reminding you of it, until you believe it too.
