Have you seen Wicked yet?
I got to see it this evening, and I absolutely loved it. It’s packed with themes that really resonated. So what lessons were in there for all of you?
One of the biggest takeaways for me was about authenticity. Elphaba’s journey is such a powerful reminder about staying unapologetically true to yourself, even when the world doesn’t quite understand you. EAs are often in that position – doing things differently, advocating for what’s right, or managing challenges that others might not see. There’s something inspiring about that authenticity.
And then there’s the relationship between Elphaba and Glinda. Watching them go from rivals to allies was such a great reminder of how important it is to find common ground with people, even when you start out on completely different pages. So much of being an EA is about navigating those dynamics – figuring out how to work with all kinds of personalities and building partnerships that might not come naturally at first.
Elphaba’s resilience really struck me too. She faces so much rejection and misunderstanding, but she never lets it stop her from standing up for what she believes in. It’s a powerful reminder of how important it is to keep pushing forward, even when things get tough. EAs know this feeling well. Whether it’s managing high-pressure situations, handling setbacks, or sometimes even being underestimated resilience is often what keeps everything moving.
And how could I not mention ‘Defying Gravity’? That moment when Elphaba decides she’s not going to let anyone hold her back is such a powerful metaphor. It’s a reminder that sometimes, you have to let go of others’ expectations and chart your own course. For EAs, this could mean advocating for your value, challenging old stereotypes, and stepping into a bigger role than you ever thought possible.
Wicked really struck a chord with me. It’s not just a great story; it is a metaphor for how much strength, influence, and potential we all have, even when the odds seem stacked against us.
I walked out of the cinema feeling uplifted and inspired. If you haven’t seen it yet, I’d highly recommend it!
