The assistants I see when I am out on the road, are falling into two very clear camps.
🟢 Career professionals – driven, strategic, curious.
They’ve got a growth mindset. They’re business-focused. They’re watching how the profession is evolving and doing the work to evolve with it. They’re not waiting for permission. They’re not afraid of change. In fact, they’re leaning into it, because they know the role is transforming, and they plan to still be standing when it does.
🔴 The others?
They want to be told what to do.
They’re still saying, “I don’t get paid enough to do that.”
They criticise their peers for going above and beyond – “you’re making the rest of us look bad.”
They’re just holding on until retirement. “I just want to do my job and go home.”
Here’s the truth no one wants to say out loud:
If you’re in that second camp, your role won’t exist by 2030.
Technology is accelerating. Businesses are restructuring. Expectations are shifting fast. The assistants who will still have a seat at the table are the ones who’ve shown they can bring more to it.
So if you’re resisting change, telling yourself you’ve done enough, waiting for someone else to define your future?
