What If We Reimagined the Administrative Profession?

What if we reimagined the administrative profession?

What if assistants were no longer seen as overhead, but instead were recognised as part of the infrastructure of business – as vital as HR, finance, or marketing

What if onboarding programmes gave them the same depth and investment as any senior leader, so they weren’t left to piece the business together on their own?

What if leaders introduced their EAs as peers, signalling to every room that their voice carries weight?

What if assistants were included in the conversations where context is made, not just informed after decisions are taken?

What if departments saw engaging the EA not as a courtesy, but as a strategic necessity that accelerates alignment and reduces duplication?

What if assistants were recognised as talent, not just a resource, with the same right to growth, opportunity, and development as any other leader in the business?

What if organisations truly understood the potential of assistants, and the measurable impact they could have on the bottom line when given the freedom and tools to deliver it?

What if we stopped calling assistants “support”, and recognised them as the professionals who drive outcomes that shift the business: faster delivery, sharper decisions, stronger relationships, clearer communication, healthier leaders, and more productive teams?

What if we recognised that empowering assistants doesn’t just free leaders’ time. It shifts the trajectory of organisations.

What if every board had a Director of Administration – someone to articulate how assistants could strengthen initiatives by bringing their unique perspective on implementation, process, and follow-through?

This is the future I want to see.
And the question for all of us is simple.
What if we chose to build it?
