Done is Better Than Perfect: Why Sharing Your Work Matters More Than Flawlessness

Administrative Profession Culture & Events Goal Setting July 29, 2025

Yesterday I posted a checklist to help you manage your executive’s energy and focus.

It took hours to put together!

I structured it carefully, wrote it with intention, and shared in Word so you could manipulate it, adapt it, and truly make it your own.

Except… LinkedIn had other plans.

When it posted, the formatting broke, and the headline for the final page ended up on the end of the previous page.

The layout I’d laboured over? Gone.

And it took me 30 minutes to notice 😳

Cue much gnashing of teeth.
I hovered over that delete button, torn. It was already getting likes and shares, but I hated how it looked.
Do I start again? Or let it ride?

I let it ride.
Because here’s the thing: Sometimes, done is better than perfect.

We hold ourselves, and our work, to incredibly high standards. Especially in this profession.
But striving for excellence doesn’t mean chasing flawlessness. It means delivering value. Being useful. Making progress.

That post, imperfect as it was, still helped people. That’s the point.

So if you’re sitting on something today because it’s not quite perfect, maybe it’s time to hit send anyway.

Your message matters, particularly if it’s helpful.

Hope the resource was helpful. I’ll upload a clean version to our website soon 🤗
