How are you going into the week ahead?
Are you dreading it or can you not wait to get into the office?
For many assistants, work is a deeply frustrating place to be because you are still seen as ‘just an assistant’ and feel your skills are overlooked. You want to be seen as a member of the team, and as part of the ‘core business’ but you don’t know where to start to make the change.
The hard truth is that for most, the change starts with a shift in your own mindset and a willingness to put in the work.
Are you ready to make that shift?
Here are some ideas to help you make a start.
Instead of waiting to be told what to do and reacting to situations, try taking the lead and being proactive.
Do you know what your executive’s goals and KPIs are? Do you know what success looks like for them and what they are trying to achieve this year? Find out and work out how you can better support them to get there?
Do you have a plan for where you want to be by the end of this year and how you’re going to get there or are you traveling without a map?
Try thinking “What if?” rather than “What’s next?”
Are you feeling overwhelmed or are you driving the agenda with a focused action plan?
Thinking collaboratively and working in partnership with your executive are essential for every assistant. Are you still thinking in terms of “them” and “I” or have you shifted to “us” and “we”?
Grab hold of your career and be the change!
Nobody but you can do it for you! And whilst change can be uncomfortable, it’s necessary for growth. It is time to step out of your comfort zone.
Take a deep breath and don’t forget that as a wise man once said ‘Outside of your comfort zone is where the magic happens’.
